Kidney Stones – What Are They?

Kidney stones are very much common. More than one in ten people in the US will develop a kidney stone at some point in their lives. It is usually a little more common for the stones to be small. Sometimes they can be large too.

These stones are actually made up of what is called uric acid, which is actually an actual substance that your body produces on its own. Your kidneys are designed to keep this from building up to dangerous levels.

Kidney stones that are not dissolved in the urine go into the urinary tract. They make the walls of the urinary tract too thin, making it easier for them to move around.

Large kidney stones are often enough to need surgery to remove them. The smaller ones may be able to be treated with certain medications.

Typical symptoms of a kidney stone include pain when you urinate, blood in the urine, and pain in the lower back or side. The person having the stones may also feel like they are having heartburn or indigestion or similar things. A bowel movement may seem to stop for a while.

Pain medications are normally prescribed for these types of symptoms. As long as the stones aren’t too large they can be treated without surgery. Sometimes a general anesthetic is needed so that they can be put in the right place to be dissolved.

The stones can be dissolved in different ways. There are two main ways to dissolve them. One involves using a process called “dialysis” where the crystals are passed through a machine which cleanses the kidneys of the crystals.

The other method involves having someone inject the stones, which doesn’t work so well. It isn’t worth it to buy the equipment to use for this process.

The most important thing to remember is that all symptoms are not necessarily a sign of a stone. So it’s very important to get your doctor to confirm what type of stone you are having.

Kidney stones may be cured by natural treatments. There are many home remedies that have been proven to cure kidney stones.

These can include maintaining a healthy diet. Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and drinking a lot of water is an excellent idea. Making sure you drink plenty of water can help flush out the toxins that can cause the formation of stones.

Other natural remedies include eating a good variety of foods and getting plenty of exercise. Stress can also contribute to kidney stones so relaxation can help relieve some of the pain caused by a kidney stone.
